TASK

Elaborating Details
Similar to my experience in Environment Design, I was beyond appalled to see the state of my Project 1 vehicle exterior from Week 9. I quickly got to work and started improving it. To be honest, I was slightly surprised that I was able to swiftly extrude the panellings and add more details instinctively. It took about 2 hours of adding details with lineart but it did not feel dreadful at all as I was satisfied with the flow of progress. Then, I started enhancing the colours and contrast, as well as adding headlights which I can't believe I forgot about. I have to admit I slightly messed up the scale of the vehicle-to-human ratio because I was not actively checking them and it was too late to fix it since everything is connected to each other. It's an aspect I hope to do better next time.

I wanted to laze out on the rear area of the interior (which was bare) but Mr Kannan encouraged me to add details to it too or else it would be a pity to present it that way when the interior is complete but the surroundings aren't. I took it as a sketching practice and I was able to quickly sketch out the details too. Colouring wasn't a big deal as it is not the focus point so just splotches of colour did the job.

FEEDBACK

Week 14
- Add simple stuff like metal plates on the sides to complete it, don't leave it bare
- Mirror can have a milky green to look more like a mirror
- Exterior can have more panelling, cuts, and dark inlets, the seats should look like the one shown in interior
- Add head lights and signal lights
- Add bloom on shines and cooler tone in shadows
- Texts can be added on vehicle body and tyre
- Give it a name
- Make props chest bigger

REFLECTION

I only slowly grew to learn vehicle designs after I got Project 1 done. The next time I get to design vehicles, I hope to treat them like living characters with personalities instead of just metal pieces with cool panellings. Function-wise, there is still lots to learn about which I believe would help in my ideation process more if I know how things work. I was stuck a lot during the early stage as I was just not exposed to machinery previously. The struggles were difficult to get over initially but things got more tolerable over time. It was also exciting to see my peers' improvement during this whole semester and it further motivated me to keep up with my good work.
