Week 2

Shooting Exercise: Framing
During practical session, we are split into two per group to carry out our shooting exercise. The following video perfectly depicts how Trinity waits for people, and also how she perfectly folds her sweater with extreme professionalism.

i. Editing progress
Instead of just importing the 5-sec video clips continuously, I decided to vary the sequence of the shots to minimise the feeling of awkwardness and also to inject some sense of liveliness. It might still be jarring since I did not shoot the videos with that idea in my mind, I only decided to do that in the editing process.

Week 8
Project 2: Editing Exercise 1 (Lalin)
We were required to do trimming exercises in this shooting made by Taylorians for a part in Lalin.

i. Editing progress
There was a storyboard provided for us to figure out the sequence of the video but there was also graphics provided that are not mentioned in it. Thus, I tried to arrange them in a way it makes sense to me. Also, we are required to trim it to 30 seconds sharp and I found it hard to still ensure the video makes sense in such a short time.

Week 9

Sound Shaping with EQ

We were required to play with EQ and reverb to create the sound for the following 4 locations.

Fig 3.1 Exercise brief, 24 October 2022

It was actually not that easy to control the reverb settings to achieve the type of echo I want in each location. I had to re-listen the audio again and again as if it's my first time listening to it so that I will have a clear judgement.

REFLECTION

I appreciate the in-class exercises and a proper live demo from Mr Martin in helping students to familiarise themselves with Adobe Premier Pro. Having a film study makes the syllabus more fun too.
In week 2, I was actually clueless as in I do not know how to start framing properly and shooting the video as I have never done any video shooting previously. Thankfully, Trinity is more familiar with it and guided me throughout the exercise.

For the subsequent exercises, I get the opportunity to solidify my technical skills using software such as Abobe Premier Pro and Adobe Audition as I would not have used them if not for my assignments. The exercises are light and manageable as long as procrastination is not involved in completing them.
