- create increasingly specific details for your world
- character creation comes afterwards

TASK

A1: Concept World Creation
Zyxx has abandonment issues, she is a (failed) dragon shapeshifter but she is full of energy and her mischievousness is a menace to the village she is living in.

A2: Character Conceptual Development

My usual character design style leans towards western fantasy such as Dungeons and Dragons or Monster Hunter. Thus, the first sketches can be seen as having more of a viking-ish feel to it. There is a feral/ dragon look to the character which was intended, but the character does not look like she belongs in the Genshin Impact world. At that point, I knew something was off but still could not pinpoint the issue. After analysing more on the character designs from Genshin Impact and feedback from Ms Anis, it was the oriental element that my design lacks.

The solution was straightforward, substitute the accessories/armour in my character with something from Genshin Impact. One of the prominent aspects was to implement oriental-looking pieces of jewellery to my character's belt and utilise more cloth-like/leather armour instead of sharp metal ones. (There are Genshin Impact characters who use metal armour but still have an oriental element, but I wanted to play safe).

FEEDBACK

Week 5
- Her usual can be #2 with the horn headband and when she attacks she can put up #3 headpiece, like when doing a big dps burst, with mask on
- This way it fits her lore
- Try the turn around design and see if the back and side design fits her overall

Week 4
- Incorporate more oriental elements into the outfit, start from things like belts and boots from other genshin impact characters
- Maintain the tribal, rough and wood-sy feeling

Week 2
- Explore Sumeru and the subareas as it suits the character's location of living in a mountain or cave
- Study the design from Razor and Xin Yan and combine the design with your character to make it looks like it originates from Teyvat
- Incorporate dragon characteristics to the human form, for example, scales, tails or horns.

REFLECTION

I never really tried building a character's backstory as I had an assumption that I am bad at it, due to my lack of interest in reading fictional novels. However, once I started typing down each aspect of my character, the ideas just kept on flowing out. Character concept design-wise, it was a good experience broadening my outfit design skills on oriental elements as I was only exposed to Western games/ art since I was a kid. Despite having pros and cons on the theme being limited to Genshin Impact,  I would still say that I have benefitted from this limitation due to the ample visual references on a wide array of Genshin Impact characters from fandom wikipedias or youtube videos on their attack animations.
