TASK

A6: Hero Pose
Design a pose for the splash art, taking into account the facial expression, lighting and dynamic movement. The aim is to sell your character and make people want to play it.

i) Research

I got excited but immediately overwhelmed again when I looked at too many examples of splash art. Thus, I collected and categorised each visual using PureRef as usual, and started photobashing images to form a quick composition. Doing this reduces the fear of starting a sketch afterwards.

ii) Sketch Progress
During the sketch phase, I also incorporated the weapon to visualise the splash art better. I noticed that the pose I wanted to go with would look weird with the placement of the hand and weapon. Therefore, the upper body was tweaked for the hero pose to work.

FEEDBACK

Week 13
- pika pika, purple pikachu, it works

Week 11
- #1 is interesting and complements her appearance, as if she is powering up and saying "okay punk, let's dance"

REFLECTION

There are way more aspects to give attention to than I expected when doing splash art. Firstly, I was told by someone that she feels more drawn to a character's promotional poster if the character's eye is focused on the viewer, which convinces her to play the character more. Secondly, ensuring the focal point of my character was a process where I have to put quite a bit of thought. This is because my outfit's colour is almost the same as my character's power and the character could be too blended with the effects going around her. It was a process of changing the hues and light values to make sure the character pops out the most.
