TASK

Composition
I could not remember much of what happened but I remember I was really fearful about doing interior sketches, spent too many hours fixated on the reference images and did not know how to even start the sketches. It is such a complex topic as I have never drawn interiors before or even taken the time to observe interior structures in real life. I knew I was facing the "zone out in fear" problem and I went to the good ol' timer solution -- put myself under a time limit to finish a composition sketch. Each of these was completed in under 1 hour (very long, but I would rather not want a blank canvas).

3D Blockout
The feedback was that it is still too bare and flat. I really could not imagine how to improve it through more 2D sketchings, therefore I know it is time to bring business into 3D. Based on the hero assets I have made, I 3D-modelled each and every one of them. What I aimed to do was to make a modular piece of wall, duplicate them, arrange them, done. The preparation was to find youtube tutorials to model arches and look at alternative ways to create pillars. In one day, I spent 10 hours completing it and screenshot different angles in Blender. Can you even believe that a friend of mine even came over to my house to have dinner and we even had a catch-up chit-chat session while I was working on my models?

Base Colour
Uh oh..... I was starting to lose gas and energy at this stage. It took quite a bit of self-brainwash encouragement to get myself through. I was upset that I had to paint the details in the pillar strip by strip.

FEEDBACK

Week 12

- For the pillar, either solidify it and make it the same thickness as the upper platform, can add a bowl with fire if it remains pops out
- Put the base colour as the material
- Paint over it, capture the mood, add details

Week 11
-  The base is there, but depth and story are missing, which can be shown through patterns on banners or the other design aspects
- Functions can be studied more, exp: if there is a library section, will the users have chairs to sit on or do they have to stand?
- Look at which prominenet part the user will be interacting the most
- Can have more curvatures on ceiling and elevations on sides, such as having more extruded pillars on the sides, or statues with symbolic representations in the library
- The semi-circle window row can be pushed in and the pillars can extruded more with arch
- Pillars can be doubled up and supported by skirtings
- Look at how modular pieces can be extracted
- Can make a texture pattern for each side
- Create a pillar and plane in blender, attach material texture to it, go to shading tab on top, and adjust the node (mortar size)
- Search for painted floor texture/ textures.com
- Node->texture->image texture
- Set origin to vertex, hold shift+right click set origin point to corner of plane, turn on magnet icon (snap)

Week 10
-Interior sketch, break it down into sections, to see how the player can walk through it
- Look at the elevations
- Add on more personality/ culture through banners, paint, and symbols, to show who usually would go there

REFLECTION

Wow. Such a big accomplishment in 3D modelling. It's nice to test out the limit of my laptop once in a while. Knowing that room for improvement is always there, I still want to take a moment to be proud of what I have done. I was glad the modelling went smoothly and the only challenge is that it requires patience because it would take up a lengthy time to create the assets for a modular piece. Most of the time my brain could switch to half autopilot mode and let my muscle memory take over. Again, this was only achievable because I established a clear direction in my hero asset sketches and built a solid base in the initial stage.
