TASK
Deconstruction & Reconstruction
Vehicles are a completely foreign subject to me and the exercise helped me to kickstart knowing the "anatomy" of a few types of vehicles. It was also the moment I found out that drawing wheels and wings was my nightmare. A tip that I learned is to put them into a box, almost everything's perspective can be conquered using squares or rectangles.
Value Studies
Despite doing okay in replicating exactly the values in the pictures I have taken, I realised I couldn't entirely apply the same result when doing the values for my sketched vehicle. More practice has to be done on a vehicle subject to bridge the gap.
Vehicle Thumbnail Sketches
All of these started from a blob of silhouettes before doing line sketches on them. I did not set a timer on doing this as initially planned because I realised I was pretty gassed out by doing it too much for my Environment Design progress. Huh who knows mental stamina is something that I can run out of quickly. However, the timer is still somewhat ingrained in my mind and I was conscious of not dwelling on one specific blob of silhouette.
Developed Sketches
The silhouettes previously looked too much like a Sci-fi theme instead of steampunk-ish which I intended. Thus, I tried to incorporate more gears and engine elements in the following sketches. I was still slightly struggling with designing the water vehicles to suit a steampunk theme as I couldn't find the right references (which I afterwards only did).
Elaborated Designs
Scary. Many mental hurdles were overcome to produce these 3 sketches that I already thought were my limit. Or so I thought, as the next task after this was to produce even more variety of vehicles but with the same level of detail. I was thinking if I could even possibly survive.

Crying, puking and everything. Turns out I am still
alive, and I managed to save some energy from being
overly dramatic to actually make progress for my vehicle
variety sketches. Also, let's talk about my dedication
to finally finding tutorials on how to draw
wheels.

FEEDBACK
Week 3
- Make it a habit to add parallel guidelines and centre lines for the deconstruction exercise
- Take note of the perspective in the plane wings

REFLECTION
The amount of sketches I have made gave me a sense of satisfaction. The mental block in drawing proper and detailed vehicles was huge. It took me hours to complete one detailed vehicle because it was my first time designing these boxes on wheels. Nevertheless, I am starting to like drawing vehicles as I feel like I am getting a hang of it. And it looks cool, we all love cool stuff.
