TASK

Kinetic Typography

i) PLANNING

As a group, we decided on the choice of music for kinetic typography. We also agreed on the art direction and combined the references/ moodboard in Miro.

Task delegation according to lyrics. Most of us are working on 6 to 8 lines.

ii) DRAFT
We worked on a greyscale version as we did not have a clear plan on the choice of colour we hope to use. However, we manage to send in a work-in-progress video and get some feedback from Mr Martin.

We then decided on playing with a somewhat dual-tone colour palette and based it on these few colours.

Our group member Jonathan managed to find 2 different video effects that can spice up the pixel/arcade style we are going for, which are CC lens (bulging effect) and CC ball action (pixelated effect).

iii) FINAL SUBMISSION
I am surprised I'm still not annoyed by this song at the end of the project.

Motion graphic chart

i) MATERIAL
Recreate the following chart in After Effects with animation.

ii) PROGRESS
The terrifying number of layers scared me.

Besides using keyframes easy ease, adjusting the speed graph moving from fast to slow helps to smoothen the animation more.

i) MATERIAL
According to the name list, I got assigned to do an animation for this vector image.

Honestly, my personal favourite part is making a slow motion effect with the tokens flying out.

FEEDBACK

Week 3 [Kinetic Typography draft]
- Black and white/ monochrome colour scheme is okay, might want to add a few vibrant colours to certain words

REFLECTION

I was wondering if I could have done better for my own part in kinetic typography if I was exposed to the 'animation chart' and 'vector/ character animation' tasks first. The animation techniques learned in the 2 small tasks were quite beneficial when I was doing my Pasta Grannie's animated infographic as it focuses more on the small animation details that make a moving graphic look more lively. The kinetic typography task is fun but made not so fun due to some members needing spoon-feeding on meeting the deadlines for a progress check that was informed prior a week ago, and it is worse due to the fact that I was the one doing the compilation. However, there are still members that saved my sanity by suggesting helpful ideas and being on time with their parts. The final outcome was not too bad and I do get a sense of fulfilment when the word animation nails the tempo of the song.
