FINAL REFLECTION
Experience
Having the freedom of exploring different mediums, sometimes even combining them, is what makes me motivated to go to this class, (minus the occasional creative block). I am glad that I could create my artwork in different ways as long as I have a reasonable rationale and also stick to the brief. It was a good thing to have Ms Jinchi being open-minded to the explorations I am going for and having discussions to improve my ideas.
Observations
I do understand that this module focus on the theoretical aspects such as just relaying the information, and the execution aspect is all depending on the student. That is what I observed, which is why I hoped that there could be more guidance on the execution part so the designing skills (like craftmanship) of each student can also improve? Instead of just focusing on whether students nailed the design principle, I felt like there could be more teaching sessions on the refining stage of artwork because I still cannot figure out what is known as a 'good standard' and I do not know if I did good enough or not. Art is subjective which is why I know this aspect might be hard to evaluate or teach.
Findings
My thought process from gathering references to executing the artwork has become clearer and more systematic. I am also starting to have the awareness of applying design principles to my artwork instead of just drawing something that looks pretty. I think there is still a long way to go before I have a concrete understanding of design principles and the natural instinct of applying them in my artwork but this module definitely made a good start for the improvement.
